Everything you need to know to get started and make the most of your membership at LevelUp Pickleball Club.
Welcome to LevelUp Pickleball Club ("LPC"), one of the best indoor pickleball venues in the country! We are excited that you joined our club. LPC offers you not only the optimum indoor pickleball experience, but you are now part of a community that goes beyond playing pickleball. Get to know our outstanding pros, our staff and — more than anything — our diverse group of members. Our club is guided by our membership and we are glad that you are part of it. Pickleball is not just a game; it's a way of life!
LevelUp Pickleball Club has three levels of membership: Silver, Diamond & Student.
The Silver Membership is the most economical level, but members choosing this level must pay each time they visit the club. The Diamond Membership is for those dedicated players who plan to come multiple times per week. The Student Membership is ideal for younger players who would like to play at least once a week and are on a limited budget. All memberships allow options for playing in the various formats such as ladders, round robins, open play and social sessions.
Please refer to the LevelUp Pickleball Club membership page for details regarding the cost of each membership, initiation fees and costs of the various sessions for each of the membership levels.
New LPC members enjoy the following benefits, based on each membership level. (Your welcome package includes a coupon page for your specific level.)
Note: Social event sessions consist of Round Robins and Up/Down Splits that are geared more for enjoyment and player interaction.
Each new member will sit down with a LevelUp Pickleball Club representative to compile your membership profile. At that time, you will also be instructed on how to download and use the LevelUp Pickleball Club app.
The LevelUp Pickleball Club app is used to schedule all play at the club. Download it free from the App Store or Google Play — just search "LevelUp Pickleball Club." Once it's installed, sign in or create your account and you're ready to start booking.
The app also manages all of your financial transactions. When setting up the app, you will be able to enter your (secure) payment information in the form of a credit card or bank checking account. Once a payment system has been established, your monthly membership fee and any other expenditures will automatically be deducted.
The app can also send out alerts — please keep an eye on the "Alerts" icon at the bottom of the screen. For your convenience, LPC announcements can be viewed on the app's "Home" page.
As an LPC member, you will have the opportunity to register in advance in the LevelUp Pickleball Club app for a pickleball play session. Diamond Members can register 2 weeks in advance, Silver Members one week in advance, and Student Members 2 days in advance. All members are advised to register for play in advance.
All players must stop at the front desk prior to entering the facility. If you have pre-registered for a session, you can scan the bar code on your phone (in the LevelUp Pickleball Club app). Front Desk personnel will then advise you to enter or finalize your payment if a payment is due for the session. (You can also pre-pay for an event in the app.)
If you are new and unfamiliar with the play at LPC, let the Front Desk know and they will arrange for one of our Ambassadors to meet you and take you into the facility.
Each new LPC member who is a beginner is able to take advantage of the New Player Program, which consists of the following:
One of the LPC pros will conduct a 30-minute introduction to pickleball to introduce you to — or expand your knowledge of — the rules of the game. This is scheduled twice per week/month as needed. After the 30-minute session, new players will have an opportunity to meet and play with some experienced members.
Beginner clinics run by our LPC pros will be available to develop basic pickleball skills. Please refer to our weekly schedule on the LPC website and the LevelUp Pickleball Club app for times and cost.
As a new player, you may not know other members and may be unfamiliar with the open play during drop-in sessions. If so, please notify the Front Desk personnel when checking in so we can get one of our Ambassadors to introduce you to others and to play some pickleball.
LevelUp Pickleball Club uses a "Club Rating" to establish a skill level for our members, used in designated skill-level sessions. There are five specific club rating levels at LPC: 2.0–2.99, 3.0–3.49, 3.5–3.99, 4.0–4.49 and 4.5 and above. We believe that the most enjoyable pickleball matches for LPC members are those played with others who possess similar skill levels.
When becoming a member, if you have an established DUPR rating, you can use this rating to obtain a Club Rating. If a new member does not have a DUPR rating, the Front Desk will have an LPC Ambassador observe you and either assign you to a 2.0–2.9 or a 3.0–3.4 skill level. If you want to qualify for a 3.5 or higher rating, you will need to sign up and participate in a Club Rating session. These are held regularly and are listed on the LevelUp Pickleball Club app. New members who want to test for a 3.5 rating level or higher may play at that level for up to 30 days prior to testing. After 30 days, if a new member has not tested, they will receive a club skill level rating of 3.0–3.4.
Once a Club Rating is assigned, registration for LPC sessions will be restricted according to skill level. Players must only play on those courts that are assigned to their designated skill level.
Our club has several types of sessions that should fit whatever style of play you like. The LevelUp Pickleball Club app lists the various sessions by date.
Players are initially listed according to skill level — highest to lowest. Groups of 4 and 5 players of similar skill levels play a round robin format. The player with the best score moves up the ladder and the player with the lowest score moves down. A fun and competitive format.
Players are randomly chosen as partners and opponents for timed games. This gives players the opportunity to play with and against a variety of players in the session. You may play six or seven games during the session. A fun format.
You will play six or seven games on several courts. Courts are labeled highest to lowest. If you and your partner win, you both move to the next-highest court, but then play against each other. Losing teams move down a court and also play against each other. This format is fun and competitive — having a friend one game and a foe the next!
These events have a variety of formats: round robins, up/down splits, up the river–down the river, and more. Most importantly, they are to have fun and meet other players. Time is always left at the end of these sessions to stop in the Baseline Bar & Grill to socialize and get re-energized!
These sessions are listed on the schedule as "Drop-in" sessions. The courts are separated by the five different skill levels, shown on the large TV monitor on each court. There is a centralized paddle rack for each skill level. Paddles are stacked on the racks in groups of 4 to identify the next 4 players to go onto the next available court for that skill level. Groups play only one game and then exit the court.
During Drop-in sessions there are two types of play: Qualified Play and Flex-Skill Play. Some sessions are always designated as Flex-Skill Play (afternoons and those sessions during the same time as programmed play, i.e. ladders). Other sessions are designated as Qualified Play where skill level is strictly enforced. However, the last hour of the Qualified Play sessions reverts to the Flex-Skill format to allow all players to intermix.
Members must have an assigned club rating, and non-members must have a qualifying DUPR rating, to play on the associated skill-level courts. Players can drop down one skill level to play on a court of a lower skill level; however, there can be only one higher-level skill player in a group of 4.
All players have the ability to queue their paddles and play on a court skill level of their choosing. However, it is strongly recommended that players only move up one skill level to play on that court. All players can move down to a lower level if desired.
LPC holds a variety of tournaments for all levels of play. Check our schedule for upcoming events.
Our club is not just a fantastic venue for playing pickleball — it is a community of active members who love the game and enjoy sharing it. Many of our players have volunteered to be Ambassadors who represent the energy, spirit and culture of LPC. As Ambassadors, they help new members get acclimated to the club, answer questions, oversee player rotation during open play, and help guide the club so everyone has a great experience. Our Ambassadors are identified with a sticker. We would love to have you join this group once you get your feet on the ground here!
There are large TV monitors in the lobby and in the passageway between the courts. They display important and useful information including special events, and should be checked during your visits.
Download the "Team Reach" app on your phone. There is a group for LPC — the code to join is "LevelUpPittsburgh33". This app is used for members to communicate with each other. You can send group messages to everyone, or direct messages to one or more specific people. It also lets you know of upcoming events and activities at our club.
You have the opportunity to receive emails and text messages from LPC that provide club updates and upcoming events. Make sure your profile shows you want to receive these.
There are two Facebook pages for our club: "LevelUp Pickleball Club" and "LevelUp Pickleball Friends." There is also an Instagram page titled "LevelUpPickleballClub." These pages provide club information and a way to connect with other members.
